Sybilla Claus

Sybilla Claus was a journalist at major Dutch daily newspapers for 30 years. As a foreign editor she traveled the world and reported from many conflict zones. In her twenties she worked as a bus driver and taught self defense and kickboxing teacher to women. Claus has published five non-fiction books, all centred on themes of freedom, respect and equality

Growing up she felt out of place, like so many teenage girls, and was uncomfortable with narrow female gender roles. As a student of anthropology she discovered feminism and lesbian life, and learned how to love herself and other women. Thank goddess neither testosterone nor mastectomies were available in those days.

Writing is a powerful tool, and books are weapons. Claus has spent her life writing about politics and injustice, listening to the voices of ordinary people, and analysing what is going wrong and how positive change might be achieved.

With the rise of gender ideology and Islam, it seems there is a new war on women and many of the old feminist battles must be fought all over again. Today, many girls are clearly not doing well, and even struggling. Read the critical stories in Rebel Girls and help empower our girls, with knowledge, self-defense, and self-love.

All humans are equal, but cultures differ greatly, and religion or ideology has rarely been a friend to women. Clearly, Western cultures are currently the best places in the world for women to live. Let’s fight to keep our freedom.

Claus loves cycling through cities and swimming in Amsterdam’s canals in summer.
