Customs & Duties (International Orders)
International shipments may attract import taxes, customs duties, VAT/GST, handling fees, or other charges depending on the destination country. These charges are set by local customs authorities and postal operators. If applied, they must be paid by the recipient before delivery or collection.
United States: Printed books (HS code 4901) have a base MFN duty rate of “Free” under the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule. However, from 24 February 2026, the United States introduced a 10% Section 122 global tariff that applies to nearly all imported goods, including printed books.
Any import duties, taxes, or processing fees applied by U.S. Customs and Border Protection must be paid by the recipient before delivery or collection.
European Union:
From 1 July 2026, the EU is introducing new customs and VAT rules for all goods entering EU member states:
Removal of the €150 duty‑free threshold
A flat customs duty of €3 per item for low‑value parcels (< €150)
VAT applied to all commercial shipments
Charges applied per item, not per parcel
Australia Post currently sends parcels to EU destinations under Delivered at Place (DAP) arrangements, meaning all duties, VAT, and fees are payable by the recipient.
Thailand:
From 1 January 2026, Thailand will remove its low‑value import exemption. Goods valued above 1 THB may be subject to customs duties, VAT, and postal processing fees. These charges must be paid by the recipient before collection.
New Zealand:
From April 2026, New Zealand will introduce new import processing charges for goods entering the country. As a result, parcels may attract duties, GST, or handling fees on arrival.
Important Notes
Customs duties, VAT, and clearance fees are determined by the destination country and are outside our control.
These charges are not included in your order total or shipping cost.
If a parcel is returned or undeliverable, some countries (including the EU) do not refund duties or taxes already paid.
If you are unsure about local import requirements, please check with your local customs authority before placing an order.
