Discussing Corpus in Extremis: A Memoir

Susan Hawthorne will be in conversation with Loretta Smith about Loretta’s memoir, Corpus in Extremis: A Memoir.

The discussion will trace the life experiences that shaped the book, from Smith’s childhood in Moonee Ponds in 1960s Australia through schooling, family life and disability, to adulthood marked by travel, work and long-term medical care. Smith will speak about living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease), including its impact on mobility, education, independence and daily life.

The conversation will also explore Smith’s extensive travel, the people and events that have influenced her work, and the connection between Corpus in Extremis and her earlier biography A Spanner in the Works. The event concludes with reflection on writing the memoir and bringing it into publication.
