September 11: Feminist Perspectives | Afghanistan 2021

FREE ZOOM EVENT

As women in Afghanistan enter a world in which the Taliban have regained power over the country, what is their future? How do we, as feminists, understand what is going on?

Seven speakers from India, Lebanon, Bangladesh and Australia speak about these issues. All are contributors to September 11, 2001: Feminist Perspectives edited by Susan Hawthorne and Bronwyn Winter (2002).

The speakers are:

• Kalpana Sharma, India
• Evelyne Accad, Lebanon
• Urvashi Butalia, India
• Farida Akhter, Bangladesh
• Diane Bell, Australia
• Bronwyn Winter, Australia
• Susan Hawthorne, Australia

Editor Susan Hawthorne said "Bronwyn and I would like to highlight what is happening now in Afghanistan, in particular the desperate situation of women. The book is the starting point and recent events in Afghanistan will frame that. Readers, especially younger feminists, have told us that they don’t know about this book, so we are keen to create a feminist analysis of global events and the impact they have on women and girls."

Please join us for this special and important online event, hosted by Spinifex Press.
