Nothing Matters

by Somer Brodribb

If one has any interest in “postmodernism” whatsoever, Somer Brodribb’s excellent Nothing Mat(ters is required reading… Her study deepens the perspective by pairing writers such as Levi-Strauss and Sartre; Foucault and Nietzsche; Derrida and Foucault; and Lacan and Irigaray. Brodribb’s understanding of the subtleties of these writers is dizzying, and her cross-reading not only offers a comprehensive perspective of “post-modernity,” but it also reveals nuances, trends and genealogical traces that amplify the thrust of inquiry that has been the mainstay of postmodern theory… This book needs to be read and pondered not because it has the answers or is complete in its purview ( it is remarkably thorough in regard to theory and theotists it addresses), but because Brodribb raises the vital question that postmodernism has slowly erased under the weight of the critique of ideological structure–what matters.
