Australia has a rich tradition of women writers. In 1790 Elizabeth Macarthur wrote letters home while she travelled to Australia; in 1970 Germanine Greer published The Female Eunuch. Many women wrote during the interviewing years in every genre, including journalism, autobiography, drama, letters, short stories, travel writing, novels and diaries. Dale Spender has brought together the work of thirty-seven Australian women writers. Dale Spender is the author and editor of over thirty books including the internationally acclaimed, Man Made Language and Women of Ideas, Heroines, Writing a New World and The Penguin Anthology of Australian Women's Writing. She is also the author of Nattering on the Net.
